Where the month actually went.

Photograph a receipt, or forward the order email. SpendInsights reads all of it: merchant, date, tax, every line item. Then files it under a category that means something.

5 line items kept, itemised

Two ways in. Neither one is data entry.

Way one

Photograph it

  1. 01

Open the app at the till and take the photo. Crumpled and badly lit is fine.

  2. 02

The model reads the merchant, the date, the tax and each line item, and keeps the items rather than flattening them into one total.

  3. 03

It lands in your expenses already categorised. If it guessed wrong, change it once and move on.

Way two

Premium

Never touch it at all

Point one mail filter at it, say everything from auto-confirm@amazon.ca, and those orders file themselves while you are asleep. There is a click-by-click guide inside the app for Gmail, Outlook and Apple Mail.

It starts at Giving, not Shopping.

Most trackers hand you a flat pile of tags and let you sort it out. A new account here is seeded with 11 groups in the order a month is meant to be spent: giving and savings come off the top, debt and lifestyle come last.

Underneath them sit 38 sub-categories, from Natural Gas to Fun Money. Rename them, recolour them, delete the ones that do not apply to you. It is your budget.

Set a monthly target on any of them and the budget page tracks it.

Which of these is your bank statement?

After a few weeks of receipts, your discretionary spending gets scored across six dimensions and you get told which one you are. It is a party trick with a real number under it, and it comes with a card worth sending to the friend who already knows the answer.

Pick one. Then find out whether your receipts agree with you.

For people who already live in a chat window

Ask your own spending, in your own words.

SpendInsights runs its own MCP server. Connect it to Claude, ChatGPT or any MCP client, approve it once, and your expenses start answering questions.

Your week in spending

  • Groceries crept up

Three shops instead of your usual two pushed food 18% above your four-week average.

  • Two subscriptions renewed

Both landed on the same day this month, which is why the week looks heavier than it was.

Illustration only. Yours are written from your own week.

What it costs.

The free tier is the whole product, metered. Premium raises the ceiling and unlocks the two things that need it.

Why this exists

I built this because I had a drawer of receipts and a banking app that could tell me I spent $84.32 at Whole Foods but not that half of it was one week’s worth of chicken.

Every budgeting tool I tried wanted me to do the typing. So I made the one where you take a photo, or forward an email, and then you do nothing at all.
